Older house facade with tall brick chimneys

Creosote removal in Atlanta, GA

Heavy and glazed creosote removed safely, so your chimney is clean, your draft is restored and the fire risk is gone.

Creosote forms when smoke cools as it rises through the flue. A normal sweep removes the light, sooty kind. But when fires burn cool or smoky, or a chimney goes years without cleaning, creosote can harden into a thick, tar-like or shiny glazed coating that brushes alone will not shift.

Why it matters

Creosote is highly flammable. Heavy or glazed deposits are the fuel behind most chimney fires, and they also choke the flue, so smoke and gases have a harder time getting out of the house.

How we remove it

We look inside the flue with a camera to see how much creosote there is and what type, then use the removal method that suits it, from heavy-duty brushing to treatments that break glazed creosote down so it can be swept out. We check the flue again afterwards to confirm it is clean.

Stopping it coming back

Dry, seasoned wood, hotter fires and a yearly sweep keep creosote light and easy to remove. We will tell you what we think caused the buildup in your chimney.

FAQ

Common questions

Something else on your mind? Call (678) 923-3593 and ask.

What is glazed creosote?

It is the hardest and most dangerous stage of creosote: a shiny, tar-like coating that forms when smoke condenses on a cool flue. It does not come off with a normal sweep.

How do I know if I have heavy creosote?

Thick black flakes in the firebox, a strong smell, a poor draft or a shiny coating inside the flue are common signs. A camera inspection shows exactly what is there.

Can creosote cause a chimney fire?

Yes. Built-up creosote is the main fuel behind chimney fires, which is why removing it matters.
