After: brick being set in fresh mortar

Chimney masonry repair in Atlanta, GA

Cracked, spalling and loose brick repaired, brick and stone chimneys restored, and the water causing the damage stopped at the source.

Your chimney is the tallest, most exposed piece of masonry on your house. Sun, storms and the occasional hard freeze work on it year after year, and small problems in the brick and mortar turn into big ones once water gets inside.

What we repair

Cracked and broken bricks, spalling brick where the face has flaked or popped off, loose bricks near the top of the chimney, worn mortar joints and damaged brick or stone. Inside the house, we repair firebox masonry and cracked hearths.

Brick replacement

Damaged bricks are cut out and replaced with brick matched as closely as we can to the color, size and texture of the original, then set in mortar matched to your joints.

Stopping the cause

Most masonry damage starts with water. White staining, flaking brick and crumbling joints all point to moisture getting in. Along with the repair, we fix the source, such as the crown, cap or flashing, so the damage does not keep coming back.

Repair or rebuild?

Most chimneys can be repaired. When the damage is widespread, the chimney leans or the brick crumbles when touched, rebuilding the top section is often the better long-term fix. We show you photos and explain both options.

FAQ

Common questions

Something else on your mind? Call (678) 923-3593 and ask.

What is spalling brick?

Spalling is when the face of a brick flakes, peels or pops off. It happens when water soaks into the brick and expands. Spalled bricks should be replaced and the water source fixed.

What does white staining on my chimney mean?

That white, chalky residue is efflorescence: salts left behind as water moves through the masonry. It is a sign moisture is getting in, and it is worth finding out where.

Can you match my existing brick?

We match color, size and texture as closely as we can. New brick and mortar can look slightly different at first and usually weather in over time.
